Active Treatment
in ICF/MR:
This comprehensive course provides an overview of individual rights and steps
that should be taken by a facility to meet the Condition of Participation of
Active Treatment. Eighteen outcome-based active treatment regulations of the
Fundamental Survey will be covered. Participants will complete activities,
including reviewing case studies that will provide them with an opportunity to
utilize the fundamental survey tool used by surveyors. This activity provides
6.0 contact hours for the nurse and 5.5 clock hours for social workers.

Writing
Acceptable Plans of Correction for Nursing Facilities:
This interactive course provides information that can assist providers of
certified or licensed only nursing facilities in writing acceptable plans of
correction. It provides program specific information and strategies that
delineate exactly what action is taken to correct deficiencies/violations.
Additionally, providers are given the opportunity to practice writing skills and
to develop an acceptable plan of correction. This activity provides 5.41 contact
hours for the nurse, 4.5 clock hours for nursing facility administrators, and
4.5 clock hours for social workers.

Detecting and
Preventing Abuse and Neglect in Nursing Facilities:
This course was designed to enhance the provider staff and Regulatory Services
staff understanding of abuse and neglect issues pertaining to individuals served
by a nursing facility (NF). The focus is intended to provide a generic approach
to the detection and prevention of abuse and neglect. This course is applicable
to professionals employed in a nursing facility (NF), assisted living facility
(ALF), or an adult day care facility. This activity provides 5.0 contact hours
for the nurse and 5.5 clock hours for nursing facility administrators, and 5.5
clock hours for social workers.

Infection Control:
The purpose of this continuing education activity is to enhance the
professional's knowledge of state and federal rules and requirements for
infection control processes, early identification and reduction of risk, and
prevention of infectious disease. The professional will be empowered to
facilitate change(s) within their area of practice and to identify if the
facility implemented adequate care measures to prevent negative outcomes for
residents residing in long-term care facilities. This activity provides 5.0
contact hours for the nurse, 5.0 clock hours for nursing facility
administrators, and 5.0 clock hours for social workers.

Conducting Thorough Investigations (ICF-MR/RC):
This 4-hour joint training course is intended to give both surveyors and
providers information related to conducting thorough investigations in
intermediate care facilities for persons with mental retardation or related
conditions (ICF-MR). It includes objectives of investigations, key personnel,
types of evidence, allegation classifications, terms used by facility
investigators, methods of protecting alleged victims, responsibilities of the
facility investigator, conducting injury of unknown origin investigations, and
survey procedures. This activity provides 3.5 contact hours for the nurse and
3.75 clock hours for social workers.

Understanding the
Nursing Facility Survey Process:
This class covers the history of Medicare and Medicaid and the licensure survey
process in long term care facilities from the Social Security Act of 1935 to the
present. The class is an overview of resident centered and outcome oriented
Nursing Facility Survey according to the Appendix P. Considerations in the care
of the individuals in the long term care settings will also be presented. This
activity provides 3.0 contact hours for the nurse, 3.25 clock hours for nursing
facility administrators, and 3.25 clock hours for social workers.

Resident Rights
and Quality of Life:
This course is intended to provide nursing facility providers insight and
understanding of the rights of residents of long term care facilities guaranteed
under federal and state law. State and federal regulations regarding resident
rights and quality of life are covered in detail. Providers are given
opportunities to identify examples of deficient practices regarding resident
rights, dignity, and quality of life. Class discussion also focuses on facility
practices that comply with state and federal regulations and protect, support,
and promote the rights of residents and enhance their quality of life. This
activity provides 6.0 contact hours for the nurse, 5.5 clock hours for nursing
facility administrators, and 5.5 clock hours for social workers.
