Life
Safety Code and Maintenance of Nursing Facilities: This course helps
participants maintain their fire alarm, sprinkler, and HVAC systems. While many
of the facility staff can gain from this class, the information is especially
suited for the maintenance staff. Other modules discuss the maintenance of a
building's construction type, smoke barriers, and corridor doors. Commercial
cooking equipment, medical gas, and exit requirements are also discussed. The
final module looks at additional maintenance requirements for facilities that
are not fully sprinklered. This course provides the following continuing
education - 5.5 clock hours for long-term care administrators of nursing
facilities that are fully sprinkled and 6.5 clock hours for long-term care
administrators of nursing facilities that are not fully sprinklered. Note: Each
participant must bring to the training a copy NURSING FACILITY REQUIREMENTS
19.300 THROUGH 19.344 as well as Facility Floor Plan.

Understanding the Nursing Facility Survey Process:
This class covers the history of Medicare and Medicaid and the licensure survey
process in long term care facilities from the Social Security Act of 1935 to the
present. The class is an overview of resident centered and outcome oriented
Nursing Facility Survey according to the Appendix P. Considerations in the care
of the individuals in the long term care settings will also be presented. This
course provides the following continuing education - 3.25 clock hours for
long-term care Administrators, 3 contact hours for Registered Nurses, and 3.25
credit hours for Social Workers.

Understanding the Enforcement Processes for Nursing Homes -
This course provides a detailed overview of state and federal enforcement
actions in nursing homes. How "scope and severity" help determine enforcement
actions is emphasized. The course also provides an overview of the informal
dispute resolution process and the appeal process. This course can provide 9.0
clock hours for Nursing Facility Administrators, 9.0 for Social Workers and 6.0
contact hours for Registered Nurses.

The Top Ten Nursing Facility
Deficiencies: This course
provides participants with knowledge of deficiencies cited in Nursing Facilities
for the year 2006. The class provides information on deficiencies and
violations. Additionally, examples of facility system problems and practices are
identified in accordance with regulatory requirements. This course provides the
following continuing education - 2.75 clock hours for long-term care
administrators, 3.5 contact hours for Registered Nurses and 2.75 credit hours
for Social Workers.

Writing Acceptable Plans of Correction for Nursing Facilities:
This interactive course provides information that can assist providers of
Certified or Licensed Only Nursing facilities in writing acceptable plans of
correction. It provides program specific information and strategies that
delineate exactly what action is taken to correct deficiencies/violations.
Additionally, providers are given the opportunity to practice writing skills and
to develop an acceptable plan of correction. This course provides the following
continuing education - 4.5 clock hours for long-term care Administrators and 4.5
credit hours for Social Workers and 3.0 contact hours for Registered Nurses.

Urinary Incontinence:
Urinary incontinence is one of the most common occurrences found in nursing
facilities. This course provides nursing facility providers and surveyors with
information regarding the assessment of urinary incontinence, the types of
urinary incontinence, and the treatment and care for urinary incontinence. This
course also covers how surveyors determine whether facilities are in compliance
with federal and state regulations. Effective August 2007, this course provides
the following opportunities for continuing education: 7.5 for Social Worker, and
7.5 for nursing facility Administrators and 6.0 contact hours for Registered
Nurses.

Incident Reporting and
Investigation Overview for Assisted Living Facilities:
This course provides guidance to Assisted Living Facilities in reporting abuse,
neglect, exploitation (A/N/E) and other reportable incidents to the Texas
Department of Aging and Disability Services in accordance with regulatory
requirements. Facility practices that can assist in the prevention of A/N/E;
procedures and techniques for investigating and documenting reportable
incidents; and the timeframes for reporting and submitting investigation reports
are reviewed. This course provides the following continuing education - 3.5
clock hours for long-term care Administrators, 3.5 contact hours for Registered
Nurses, and 3.5 credit hours for Social Workers.

Common Licensure Violations
in Assisted Living Facilities:
This comprehensive course provides participants with information regarding the
most frequently cited violations as addressed by the licensure process.
Participants are given information to assist in the identification of violations
that impact resident care and safety. Case studies and class discussion will
focus on examples of violations and of facility practices that comply with state
licensure regulations. This course provides the following continuing education -
2.75 clock hours for long-term care Administrators, 3.5 contact hours for
Registered Nurses, and 2.75 credit hours for Social Workers.
October 6, 2008 9 AM to 1 PM
Understanding the Inspection
Process for Assisted Living Facilities:
This course provides an overview of the inspection process completed by
surveyors in the Long Term Care-Regulatory program. Methods surveyors use to
gather information will be discussed as well as the required tasks surveyors
follow to complete the inspection process. This course provides the following
continuing education - 2.25 clock hours for long-term care Administrators, 2.2
contact hours for Registered Nurses, and 2.25 credit hours for Social Workers.
November 3, 2008 9 AM to 5 PM
Culture Change:
This course, for nursing facility surveyors and providers, introduces
participants to the concept of culture change, provides participants the
opportunity to discuss culture change principles within the context of the
federal regulations, and offers participants the opportunity to set
implementation goals. It offers 6.0 contact hours for Registered Nursing CEs,
7.5 Social Worker CEs, and 7.5 NF Administrators CEs.

Dental Health: This course
provides participants information on the causes of oral disease and
interventions to prevent oral health problems. Participants will receive
information on dental abnormalities as well as systemic diseases and conditions
that affect the elderly. This class also covers how the surveyor looks at dental
health in nursing facilities. This course provides the following continuing
education - 3.75 clock hours for long-term care Administrators, 3.0 contact
hours for Registered Nurses, and 3.75 credit hours for Social Workers.
