Restraints in
Long Term Care:
This course provides pertinent information regarding the use of restraints,
including history, injury as a result of restraint use, alternatives to
restraints, and numerous research studies on this topic. This activity provides
6.0 contact hours for the nurse, 4.5 clock hours for nursing facility
administrators, and 4.5 clock hours for social workers.

Dehydration and Weight Loss:
Two of the most common and perhaps under-recognized complications that can occur
in the long-term care setting are dehydration and malnutrition. This course
provides participants with useful information to assess hydration and weight
changes, prevent dehydration and weight loss and develop interventions for both
conditions. The course will show how surveyors review to determine if
dehydration and weight loss are expected or unexpected events. Please bring a
calculator with you to class. This activity provides 5.0 contact hours for the
nurse, 5 clock hours for certified dietary managers, 5 clock hours for Nursing
facility administrators, 5 hours for registered dieticians, 5 hours for
registered dietetic technicians, and 5 clock hours for social workers.

Pressure Ulcers:
This course is intended to help participants better understand applicable
regulatory requirements related to pressure ulcers. Topics include evaluation,
prevention, monitoring, etc. from the regulatory perspective. This activity
provides 3.0 contact hours for the nurse, 4.25 clock hours for nursing facility
administrators, and 4.25 clock hours for social workers.

Conducting Thorough Investigations (ICF-MR/RC):
This 4-hour joint training course is intended to give both surveyors and
providers information related to conducting thorough investigations in
intermediate care facilities for persons with mental retardation or related
conditions (ICF-MR). It includes objectives of investigations, key personnel,
types of evidence, allegation classifications, terms used by facility
investigators, methods of protecting alleged victims, responsibilities of the
facility investigator, conducting injury of unknown origin investigations, and
survey procedures. This activity provides 3.5 contact hours for the nurse and
3.75 clock hours for social workers.
